Following is a checklist of factors
considered important when
looking for a new cage for your parrot:
1. Strength. A Cockatoo needs a strong cage. Make
sure the welded rod tops are inside a
channel, and also that rods are not just tacked onto the side.
2. Color - for ease in cleaning choose white cages to house powder-down birds like
Cockatoos.
3. Wheels - Heavy duty ones to let the cage roll easily.
4. Accessibility - Most of us think being able to service food and water without reaching
into a
cage is important.
5. Finish - Choose a cage that is easy to wipe clean.
6. Locks - These should be set well out of the bird's reach. Check that the cage has a way
you
can attach a padlock to the door and locks to all feeder/nesting doors.
7. Top - Make sure it is fastened down securely to the cage.
8. Hinges - All screws and hinges that the bird can reach could be targets. These need
hidden
and not where the bird can reach them.
9. Grate - Make sure it is easily removable. Slide-out grates are the easiest.
10. Space - There should be enough space between the bottom grate and the tray beneath
that
the bird can not reach old food on the tray when it falls through the grate.
11. Construction- Either buy a cage that is a knockdown one or make sure the cage fits
through
the doors in your home.
12. Size of cage. Is it large enough for the bird to play in?
